For our longtime Longboat Key clients, the fireplace became the defining feature of their great room. Set against a huge, empty wall opposite the kitchen, this floor-to-ceiling focal point brought warmth, balance, and purpose to the space without competing with the beautifully crafted millwork kitchen.

This was the third home we have had the pleasure of designing with them, and each residence has offered a distinct design direction. In this great room, the enormously high, peaked ceiling was enhanced with crisp white beams and shiplap, adding architectural definition and relaxed coastal character.

We selected real stone in soft shades of cream, white, and light caramel to surround the fireplace wall. Its varied tones create warmth and movement while maintaining a calm, organic feel. The electric fireplace provides ambiance without requiring heat, making it an ideal choice for a Florida home. Above it, the television can display artwork when not in use, allowing the screen to blend naturally into the design.

A floating hearth grounds the feature, while a thick wood base with matching floating shelves adds warmth and texture. A large, delicate chandelier emphasizes the ceiling height, and carefully chosen furnishings, pillows, and accessories soften the room.

The result is modern, romantic, and connected to nature—a collaborative solution to a feature wall that became the heart of the great room.

At SRQ Interior Design, we do more than decorate. We solve challenging design opportunities, uncover each client’s vision, coordinate skilled trades, and bring every detail together with purpose—transforming unfinished or disconnected spaces into homes that feel complete.
