The Art of the Everyday Table

The Art of the Everyday Table

At SRQ Interior Design, we believe a dining or dinette table should never sit undressed. A bare tabletop feels unfinished — like a room without a rug, or a window without treatments. Just as your home has a permanent design language, your table deserves one too: a foundation that stays in place every single day, ready to welcome whoever pulls up a chair.

The formula is simple, and it works for any table shape. A rectangular table calls for a rectangular placemat; a round table calls for a round one, often finished with another layer: a plate charger or yet another placemat: a round one this time, for depth. From there, the possibilities open up. The same structure — mats, an optional charger, napkin, napkin ring — can shift in color, texture, and mood with the seasons: crisp linen and botanicals for spring, warm woven textures for fall, metallics and greenery for the holidays. The elements stay constant; the story they tell changes.

And please — retire the paper napkins. Fabric napkins, especially 100% linen, only improve with time. They soften with every wash, growing more tactile and more beautiful with use.

A napkin ring isn’t reserved for special occasions; it’s a daily finishing touch, the little flourish that makes a table feel considered rather than assembled in a hurry.

Layer in a centerpiece with organic elements or mixed textures — branches, ceramics, candles — chosen to complement, not compete. The goal is cohesion: every piece speaking the same design language.

A dressed table says you were expected. That’s the SRQ Interior Design way.
