Small Space, Big Impact: A Sarasota Combo

Den and Second Bedroom Reimagined

SRQ INTERIOR DESIGN — SARASOTA, FL

When our elegant clients approached us about their second home in Sarasota, they had a tricky problem: a narrow den which doubled as a second bedroom with an awkward sofa bed across the space, making it nearly impossible for two people sleep on without climbing over each other.

Space planning first, always. We started by rotating the sofa to face the room’s entrance instead of toward the TV, then relied on a swivel TV mount so the screen could still turn toward seating. That one move unlocked the whole room.

From there, the layout came together. We flanked each wall with symmetry:  shallow dressers on each wall, slim nightstands/end tables beside the sofa, and balanced the right side TV with a left side round mirror. A soft area rug grounded the space, and a new ceiling fan added comfort, because every bedroom needs one.

To bring in a coastal, elegant feel, we layered in artwork, organic touches like plants, and tactile pillows and throws. The existing sofa bed stayed. Its neutral tone and solid bones made it perfect for the new look, saving our clients money while keeping the room functional as a true guest space.

The lesson: get the space planning right first, and a room will often design itself around it.
